CORE

In 2017, CORE Interpreters was founded in Washington, D.C., with the goal of “filling the gap” between new interpreters’ completion of degree requirements and their entrance into the profession as full-time interpreters. Recognizing the lack of resources for novice interpreters, as well as the value of mentorships in a “practicing profession”, the CORE program is designed to foster the next generation of interpreters. The program provides a semi-structured setting where experienced interpreters support the growth of novice working interpreters through one-on-one mentoring, pro bono interpreting experiences, and workshops. Through a tiered organization structure, CORE aims to facilitate the growth of novice interpreters (mentees), experienced interpreters (mentors), seasoned interpreters (coaches), and the ASL interpreting community as a whole.
